Belt Scales for all industries

In any industry where material is conveyed there is an opportunity to measure the mass of that material and record the instantaneous rate or totalized tons over time.
The belt scales are typically used for applications where a downstream process needs to be control fed at a constant or variable rate, in applications where custody transfer takes place, where metallurgical accounting of material flow throughout the whole process supply chain is required and in applications where a fixed amount of material is required to achieve a blend for onward processing.
Typical applications:

  • R.O.M. run of mine
  • Custody transfer
  • Ore accounting
  • Inventory control
  • Up to 2400mm belt widths
  • Heavy duty applications
  • Varying belt load applications
  • Low bulk density materials e.g. coal,
  • wood chips, bagasse and the like

RTI manufactures a range of high accuracy conveyor belt scales to suit various applications including weighing where nobody else can.
Using the advanced WeighScan microprocessor-based weighing transmitter to compute rate (T/H) and totalized tons along with instantaneous belt load (kg/m) and speed (m/min) indications.
The descriptive and user-friendly graphical touch screen interface allows for easy operation without referring to the manual.

Theory of Operation

A beltscale consist of four major components.

  • Mechanical weighframe
  • Integrator/electronics
  • Loadcell
  • Speed sensor

The mechanical weighframe transmits the force applied by the material on the belt onto the loadcell situated below the frame. The frame can either be pivoted or a floating frame. The force applied to the loadcell deflects the loadcell housing and installed inside is a wheatstone bridge arrangement which is supplied a constant voltage. As the wheatstone bridge is deformed, the resistance changes and this change in resistance changes the voltage output from the loadcell. This change is measured by the electronics and converted into a mass signal. With the integration of a speed sensor, the rate of material can be measured and recorded.
